In our assessment we will assess the protective and risk factors on all macro/meso/micro levels of society using a variety of techniques. By assessing these factors as both protective and a risk we will gain an understanding the strength of the community without including our bias of what we assume to be protective or potentially do harm. For examples schools can be both a protective and risk factors. Schools in Japan re-opened shortly after the tsunami to re-establish normalcy in their daily life. However, schools can also be destructive as places of armed recruitment or sexual molestation.

As you are a stranger in the community how would you assure that your findings are culturally sensitive?
In the use of a mixed method approach we will be able triangulate our data to ensure that we are not prioritizing one groups needs over another. To further ensure that we do not bias our data we will screen our tools with community members to safeguard against cultural bias. In addition all of our qualitative activities will be done with a community member and there will be debriefing after each session.
