Evaluation - When you have to revisit your work, what will be your measure of success in your measure of success in your psychosocial intervention?

The evaluation should focus on the following:
- Assessing the positive and negative changes that have taken place in the lives of children who have been part of the intervention
- Consolidate learning from the intervention that is included into further attempts to continue with programme activities so that the programme is informed by this learning
The main indicators for the success of the intervention will be as follow:
- The progress made by the child in his/ her social interaction and relationships
- The adaptability gained in everyday tasks and activities
- The psychological well being experienced by the child
- The improvement in the acceptance and support of the community

The evaluation will consider the following issues and parameters:
1) Ascertain the completion of activities and the number of children who have benefited and continue to benefit.
2) Assess the extent to which the programme has helped to :
- Develop a safe and caring environment for the child by providing support within the community
- Undertake activities that help children recover, activities that create a sense of normalcy within their conditions, activities that help children deal with the trauma of the event they have faced, activities that help children stay connected to their cultural and traditional surroundings etc
- Address community and wider societal acceptance of children who have experiences trauma – treatment in schools, treatment in daily life activities

Use the baseline that should have been developed at the inception to select a sample of beneficiaries and track changes/impact of the project. The sample could be representative of the whole target group and also investigate particular issues that were raised in the baseline analysis, that the programme was expected to address.
A sub-sample of this could be the focus of more in-depth discussion if needed to explore particular issues that have been raised during the monitoring period and initially.
The children who are recipients of the programme are fully part of the evaluation. A significant part of it will focus on the improvement of their psychological conditions as well as their perception of their well being at the different levels of the society (household, community ...)
Involve other stakeholders; such as community, household members, siblings and institutional actors who are connected to the child or provide services that the child is expected to benefit from.
Design a system that involves community and children themselves in protected ways of including them in the initial monitoring as well as the evaluation process.
Involvement of children in assessing impact of activities, direct care givers of children, using sensitive and safe ways of assessing this information
Sustainability of the interventions – the evaluation should consider if the benefits continue beyond the life of the programme, assessing how stakeholders have been linked to the programme ensures that activities will continue.
