1. Background
  • A recent natural emergency in X has led to the displacement of approximately 200,000 individuals from their village.
  • They are now living in approximately 150 temporary UN-run camps in town and few nearby villages.
  • Three weeks have already passed.
  • Human resources are very tight: 10 local social workers with limited experience in child protection issue.
  • There is need to conduct rapid child protection assessment
2. Objective of the assessment
  • To identify child protection issue in emergency situation
  • To identity stake holder and their role in community
3. Location
This assessment will be conducted in X. The location selection will refer to the urban and village setting. It’s to explore all possible need both in urban and village setting.
4. Methods
4.1. Design of the Study
This study use qualitative research method. This method will be used to collect and analyze primary data. This method is used in key informant interview and participatory ranking method (PRM). Meanwhile before field data collection will be conduct a desk review on related document and data.
4.2. Ethical Issue
The way that the researchers interact with respondent is an important step in establishing positive relationships and promoting their involvement. Field research will be conducted after permit has been obtained from local authorities and respondents. In general, confidentiality and anonymity must be explained. It must be made very clear who will have access to the data, what will happen to the data when the research is complete and purpose of the study.
4.3. Informant of the Study
Informant of the study will be select as a purposive and snowball, base on recommendation from key informant. Some characteristics will be are count in selection process, such as (1). Gender, (2). Role in community, (3) Social status and (4) Area.
4.4. Data Quality Assurance
In qualitative study, role of the researcher is important for enhancing quality of the data. During data collection, checking out the consistency of finding generated by different data collection or triangulations process will be held through:
  • Validating information obtained through interview and observations by checking program documents and other written evidence.
  • Comparing interview data with observational data.
  • Comparing the perspective of the people from different point of view.
To ensure the quality of data collection, two-day training for social worker will be conduct. Topic of the training:
  • Assessment framework and method
  • Child protection core point
  • Interview technique
4.5. Data Analysis
Qualitative data will be analyzed using content analysis technique to get more detail and depth information. All data from interviews or FGDs will be taped with the permission from the respondent and verbatim transcription will be done for analysis purpose. These data will be analyzed together with document review, observational data, and the secondary data from field. The analysis is conducted based child protection core point in emergency situation.
