Guiding Questions:
1. During our first class together, we learned that core commitments to child protection in emergencies include: “Ensuring rapid assessment of the situation of children and women and monitoring, advocating against and reporting on severe, systematic abuse, violence and exploitation.” What kinds of assessment(s) are best suited to ensuring this commitment is realized within the first 6-8 weeks?

2. A second core commitment to children in emergencies is to “prevent the separation of children from families and, when it occurs, facilitate the identification and registration of separated children, particularly those under five years of age and adolescent girls.” It also involves “ensuring that family-tracing systems are put in place with appropriate care and protection facilities” What is the role of assessment in ensuring these commitments to separated children? What kinds of assessments are required?
